About Sassafras

Sassafras is a nostalgic little children’s store in the main street of historic Dungog.

We have sourced quality, traditional and sustainably made toys from all around the world with a focus on Australian made where possible and we would really love to share them with you.

Finding a special gift that you know has been lovingly made locally like our timber sailing boats or a stunning hand felted toy that is fair trade it will fill your heart to know you support many small businesses in your purchase at Sassafras.

A place that grandparents, aunties & uncles can relish in finding a unique gift that will be kept for years to come by the little ones in their lives and where parents will reminisce about similar books and toys they remember from their childhood.

As a mum interested in learning the importance of natural open-ended play, the freedom and happiness it brings both my daughter and I has been a wonderful journey.

I am so grateful to be supported on this journey by amazing staff who are also dear friends. Sharon who originally founded Sassafras Dungog, Kirrily & Annette who bring so much to this little business and help it continue to grow.

The Experience

Each purchase in store or online is lovingly gift wrapped and we hope you enjoy the experience of ‘Sassafras’.

We are located at 137 Dowling Street in Dungog. Next door to the post office in a lovely heritage building built in 1909.

Dungog borders on the Barrington Tops National Park and Chichester Dam just an hour north west of Newcastle with many scenic walks, rivers, waterfalls, cafes, shops and mountain bike trails to explore. A little place with lots to do either for a day or an entire week.

Thanks for popping by our website and we hope to meet you in store one day too.

Much Love Andrea x
